​Established by Maryland H.B. 831/S.B. 723, the Maryland Food System Resiliency Council (FSRC) is a formally appointed body that meets regularly to spearhead a multiagency, collaborative initiative: engaging experts in food resiliency across Maryland in better addressing food insecurity and food resilience issues across the state.

New! Maryland Food Insecurity Map


 

The Maryland Food System Resiliency Council’s guiding legislation tasked the Council with tracking and analyzing data to create a comprehensive map of food insecurity across Maryland. This map was intended to serve as a tool for identifying gaps in service and promoting a more equitable food system.   


The Maryland Department of Information Technology (DoIT) coordinated with the FSRC to develop the Maryland Food Insecurity Map. This map is under development and intended to be updated over time. The current version of the map includes the following information:

Demographic information
  • Maryland Census Tracts
  • Healthy Food Priority Areas
  • Areas with High Rates of Food Insecurity
  • Areas with High Rates of SNAP Enrollment
  • WIC Benefits
  • Medicare and Medicaid Eligibility
Food Access Points
  • Food Pantries
  • Food Banks
  • The Emergency Food Assistance Program (TEFAP) Emergency Feeding Organizations
  • SNAP Retailers
  • Maryland Market Money Vendors
  • Farmers Markets
  • Public School Districts with 80% or More Eligible for Free or Reduced-Price Meals
Food Production and Processing
  • Maryland Certified Farms and Fisheries (CLFF) Producers and Processors
  • Cold Storage Infrastructure
Healthcare Access
  • Medicare and Medicaid Healthcare Facilities
