The Communication and Coordination (CC) Committee monitors and responds to legislation during the Maryland General Assembly’s legislative session, and oversees all legislative activity on behalf of the Council, including supporting bills and providing testimony as needed. The Committee also serves as a touchpoint for local food councils across the state by hosting bi-annual meetings and roundtable discussions.

Meeting bi-weekly during the Legislative Session and bi-annually as a host for local jurisdictions, the Communication and Coordination Subcommittee focuses on:

  • Coordinating state and local level food insecurity services to support residents of the state
  • Tracking and analyzing data to create a comprehensive map of food insecurity across the state and identify gaps in service
  • Reducing food waste, increasing recycling, and encouraging other relevant environmental impacts
  • Providing coordination and facilitation of knowledge exchange at the state level
  • Supporting identification and application of grants to operating funds to support existing and new food council organizations as needed
