Originally established in 2008 by Governor Martin O'Malley, Maryland's Statewide Interoperability Executive Committee (SIEC) was reconstituted by Governor Wes Moore in 2024 to once again address the demands of an increasingly complex telecommunications technology landscape.

It provides advice and recommendations to lawmakers, sets funding priorities and makes plans for developing compatible public safety communication networks, and helps coordinate between the federal, state, and local-level public safety agencies that need their technology to cooperate to keep Marylanders as safe and prepared as possible.

The SIEC has up to 21 members, made up of statewide leaders in areas that operate and rely on emergency telecommunications, like the Maryland State Police and the Maryland Department of Emergency Management, and experts in helping make sure the systems we use to communicate are strong, reliable, and able to transfer information smoothly between each other.
